Get Well UK makes it possible for GPs to confidently refer their patients to complementary therapists, by providing information, support and a team of highly skilled and qualified practitioners. With NHS funding this service is free to patients. We believe that complementary medicine can play an important role in improving health and well-being and want to ensure that many more people have access to effective healthcare, not just people who can afford to pay for it privately.
Northern Ireland. Paul Goggins MP, Health Minister for Northern Ireland, announced a new fund to pilot the integration of complementary medicine into the NHS. He said that these therapies should be made available to all people, not just people who can afford to pay privately - sentiments that we share. Get Well UK will be operating the pilot project for 700 patients in 2007. If it is successful, with patients’ health improving and money being saved, then the service will be rolled out across all of Northern Ireland.
Prince Charles awards Managing Director, Boo Armstrong the 'Integrated Health Futures Award 2005' in January 2006, for innovations in primary care.
The award recognised the work of our pilot projects in Haringey and Islington, London, in creating new ways of delivering health care through a non-profit social enterprise. Professor Peters and colleagues analysed the results from GPs in Islington who referred patients to our service.
GP partners at The Amwell Practice in South Islington, who housed the scheme, stated, “It is hard to imagine a better model than the one developed by Get Well UK.”
